Parliament touched by Ewart ‘Ells’ King’s death

The circumstances surrounding the death of Ewart ‘Ells’ King, who was killed at his home on December 4, continue to evoke emotion in the country.{{more}}

And at Tuesday’s meeting of the House, Parliamentarians expressed their condolences to the King family.

“I sympathize with them deeply because their future is going to be a difficult one,” Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace said as he referred to King’s four young children.

Eustace conveyed condolences on behalf of the opposition parliamentary representatives, adding that the entire country had been touched by the manner in which King was killed.

“And I’m sure that many of us are concerned with the manner in which he (King) lost his life,” the Opposition Leader continued.

Hendrick Alexander, Speaker of the House, also expressed condolences to the deceased man’s family, saying that he knew King and family for some time and that he (Alexander) had known the dental technician throughout his various developments in life.

Alexander said that he was saddened by the news of King’s tragic death, saying that the act was a terrible thing and that he, too, sympathized with the family members.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said that he endorsed everything that was said by the Opposition Leader, adding that he was shocked when he got the news.

“I was overseas at the time of the killing and the fear which comes into one where you are in your home, you are not troubling anybody and people break into your house and come in to kill you. It’s a terrifying thing,” Gonsalves said.

He added that it was the kind of situation that sent “shock waves through people.”

“Every killing is one killing too many, but we are human beings and there are those that touch us more,” he continued. (DD)
