If more God fearing persons study the Bible and do what is says, this country will become a better place.{{more}}

This was just one of the points expressed by Laura Anthony Browne, as she addressed the students at the Secondary School Bible Quiz award Ceremony, which took place at the National Public Library on December 14, 2011.

Anthony Browne, who is the Director of Planning in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, delivered the keynote address at the event. She examined several reasons why persons may want to study the Bible today.

She stated that in a world which is constantly changing, the Bible, which is over 2,000 years old, has never changed.

Anthony Browne said that when one studies the Bible, one gets to know the character of God, which helps us to be better people.

Commenting on the remarks many have made about the current state of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which include the recent hike in crime and violence, Anthony Browne stated that the problems arise from an insufficient number of persons reading the Bible and doing what it says.

Referring to 2 Chronicles 4:17: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”, Anthony Browne stated that four things must be done, in order for there to be a healing in the land. These things she stated were for persons who are called by God to humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from their wicked ways.

Highlighting that any problem in a country would be spiritual, Anthony Browne stated that once the recommendations of 2 Chronicles are followed, then St. Vincent and the Grenadines would become a better place.

Examining other reasons for the study of Scripture, Anthony Browne stated that we must be diligent in studying God’s word to show ourselves approved. She added that in studying the Word, one develops an appetite for God’s Word, in that the more you study, the more hungry you are for the Word of God.

She added that studying God’s Word facilitates spiritual growth and a closer relationship with God. Anthony Browne explained that just as a person may become a best friend to another by spending quality time with them, so, too, if persons want to know who God is they must spend quality time in his Word.

Giving further encouragement to the audience at the ceremony, Anthony Browne stated that Bible contains answers to every problem that a person may encounter.(OS)
