Shaunelle earned the opportunity to perform at the regional event after winning a song competition organized by the local Co-operative League, in observance of the International Year of Co-operatives, 2012.

This information was disclosed during a media launch held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, where some of the key events being planned to celebrate the International Year of Co-operatives were disclosed.

The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions 55th Annual International Convention will be held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from June 23 to 26, 2012, and Shaunelle will be a member of this country’s delegation.

According to President of the Co-operative League Junior Bacchus, “the Convention will give Co-operative leaders and managers the opportunity to network with a worldwide community of colleagues.”

Bacchus further stated that Shaunelle’s winning song ‘Building co-operation’ will also be used as this country’s theme song for the celebration of the International Year of Co-operatives.

Shaunelle earned the passage to that event, having emerged winner of a song competition put on by the local Co-operative League.

‘Building co-operation’ was adjudged winner from a field of 28 singers when auditions were held at the Russell’s Cinema.

The other artistes who participated in the theme song competition included Stacy Little and Alpheus ‘Observer’ Duncan who shared second spot.

Kenneth ‘Vibrating Scakes’ Alleyne had to settle for fourth position, while fifth position went to Adrian Wright.

The theme for International Year of Co-operatives (IYC) is ‘Co-operative Enterprises Build a Better World’.(AA)
