Taiwanese Medical Team visits SVG again
A medical team from Changhua Christian Hospital (CCH), Taiwan, is visiting St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the period November 20 to December 9, 2011,{{more}} to further strengthen cooperation with the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves received the team at his office on November 22 and hosted a welcome reception for them at his official residence on November 24. Prime Minister Gonsalves visited CCH during his trip to Taiwan in April this year, and was deeply impressed by the advancement of its facilities and the quality of its service. He pointed out that improving the medical care and public health is one of the most important tasks for the government, so that he was grateful to the Government of the Taiwan and Changhua Christian Hospital for jointly promoting the medical cooperation between the two countries.
In his remarks at the reception, Ambassador Weber Shih said that the two countries have been working closely in a wide range of cooperation projects over the past 30 years. He went on to say that besides the existing bilateral programs, the Government of Taiwan always looks forward to exploring mutually beneficial cooperation with the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in new areas, such as medical assistance.
The CCH and MCMH were twinned in August 2010, which has turned on a new leaf for the medical cooperation between the two countries. Since last year, the MCMH has sent 4 medical doctors to CCH for clinical research. Furthermore, Dr. Rosmond Adams of the MCMH was awarded a Taiwan Scholarship and is doing his Masterâs program in International Health in Taiwanâs Yang-Ming University. It is the second time that CCH has sent a medical team to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The medical team comprises Dr. Ming-tai Lin, chest medicine doctor, Dr. Shu-jen Chen, Anesthesiologist, Mrs. Sui-fen Huang, Deputy Director of Nursing Department, Ms. Min-lin Cheng, Lab Technician, and Ms. Pao-chen Tu, ER nurse.
