The course, which was conducted at the Red Cross HQ, focused on the phonetic alphabet, radio etiquette, antenna construction, basic electricity and frequency allocations for radio amateurs.

Course facilitator Donald De Rigggs – J88CD said that this was the second course for the year, 34 persons having graduated in January and 17 on this occasion. He went on to thank the NTRC and Red Cross for sponsoring the event. The course ran from November 14 to 18.

In related news, some members of the NTRC staff teamed up with a part of the RRL technical team to assemble and erect a new HF/SSB antenna on the NIS building. Following the installation, the RRL team commissioned a new Yaesu FT 2000D HF transceiver using the new GAP Challender DX antenna. Preliminary reports were above average, an indication that the installation was successful. Spearheading the installation of the antenna was radio amateur Leslie Edwards (J88NEF), while Nadine Hull from the NTRC coordinated the activity, with support from her staff and maintenance staff from the NIS.
