Christmas comes early at St. Benedict’s
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachersâ Co-operative Credit Unionâs Youth Group continued on the upward path to development when they visited the St. Benedictâs Day Nursery and Infant Hospital on Saturday, November 19, 2011.{{more}} The visit was in recognition of Universal Childrenâs Day, celebrated on November 20 of each year.
The SVGTCCU Youths took the opportunity to present a Christmas tree to the children, along with books and other supplies from the SVGTCCU Supplies Outlet. This was phase one of the groupâs two part outreach to the children of St. Benedictâs as they are presently seeking donations to deliver other goods and gifts to the nursery and hospital for Christmas.
During the visit, members of the group interacted with the children and were entertained with Christmas carols on pan by Aneisha Sutherland, a student at St. Benedictâs. On accepting the donation, Sister Nyra Anne Pajotte expressed gratitude to the SVGTCCU Youth group and challenged them to continue âtouching peopleâs livesâ as it will impact and develop their own. The St. Benedictâs Day Nursery was opened on July 25, 1963, and the infant hospital on February 13, 1968. They were both affected by the passage of Hurricane Tomas in 2010 but continue to be a place of refuge for battered and abandoned children as well as the physically and mentally challenged.
