Calliaqua Anglican School holds month long independence celebrations

In October 2011, the Calliaqua Anglican School celebrated with the nation 32 years of independence.{{more}}

The celebration began on Friday, October 7, with an individual Class cleanup. On Monday 17, the Kindergarten students participated in a National Quiz, which was followed by Grade 6 on Wednesday 19. A Fun Day was held on Friday 21, during which teachers and students got a chance to unwind and have fun.

This was followed by a historical, educational pageant, which was dubbed “The People Who Came.” Five students: (Kiara Marshall, Miss Amerindian; Kishana King, Miss European; Mashere Jackson, Miss African; Aleisha Bacchus, Miss Indian and Jshorna Alexander, Miss Chinese) took to the past to show the ethnic groups that contributed to the development of our nation.

The show was graced with guest appearances from St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ first Independence Monarch Kenneth “Vibrating Scakes” Alleyne and singing Shanelle McKenzie.

On Tuesday 25, it was the teachers’ time to showcase their talent and abilities, by decorating their classrooms for the “Best Class” competition. Emerging in the top three places were: Grade one, with teachers Mrs. V. Samuel and Ms. Z. John; Kindergarten, with teachers Mrs. M. McIntosh, Mrs. S. Camplin and Mrs. S. Stephens and Grade 3, with teacher Ms. L. Peters.

Our “Best Dressed” competition also took place in the afternoon, where students presented themselves in their cultural wear to be judged.

The celebration climaxed on Wednesday, October 26, when a special assembly was held to give God praise and to show our loyalty and patriotism to our nation. A prize giving ceremony was also held to reward the outstanding performances by our teachers and students.
