FAO aids local craft makers
Local craft makers this week received a gift of 3 industrial sewing machines to assist in the making of their products.{{more}}
On Thursday, November 10, forestry officer Joel Poyer journeyed to Wallilabou to hand over the machines to the beneficiaries. According to Poyer, the machines were accessed through the FAOâs Special Framework for Assistance (SFA) Program 2006 which wraps up here on Monday, November 14.
On Thursday, November 10, two of the machines were handed over – one to members of the Barrouallie Craft Group and the other, to one of SVGâs leading craft producers, Vida Bulze. The latter will be used to train other craft producers.
The machines have been accessed through one of the four projects sponsored under the SFA Programme – the Environment Watershed Management program Re: Sustainable Alternative Livelihood Project – and come at a cost of approximately EC$15,000.
The third machine will be given to the Community Group at Chapmans.
The four projects funded under the FAO/SFA Programme are:
1. New Strategic Plan for Agricultural Diversification -(development of document)
2. Strengthening of Plant Health, Quarantine and Phyto-sanitary Systems
3. National Annual Agricultural Sector Report (Review)
4. Environment Watershed Management – Re: Sustainable Alternative Livelihood Project
These are funded through the European Union and executed through the FAO.
