PM Gonsalves – Laziness will only hinder productivity

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says the lackadaisical approach that some Vincentians adopt will only hinder productivity as a nation.{{more}}

“We have to build a very productive society. We can’t build it if people are lazy. Too many of our citizens are insufficiently virtuous or sufficiently virtuous by not working hard…,” Gonsalves said.

The Prime Minister’s remarks were made at a “Toast to the Nation” ceremony on Thursday, October 27, at his official residence at Old Montrose, attended by members of the diplomatic corps, members of Cabinet, Parliament and other invited guests.

Gonsalves said we have to develop productive forces in the country and individuals have to work hard for their living.

“…It’s so easy to watch TV and think that you can get things without working hard. That disease is all over the world. A social disease and we have to arrest it,” he asserted.

Gonsalves thanked all foreign delegates in attendance for their assistance to this country over the years. He said without them, this country would not have been able to do some of the things it is doing now.

Underscoring the point that the construction of the Argyle International airport is one of the country’s most important projects, the Prime Minister invited members of the diplomatic corps to tell their capitals about the project.

“…We will like you to tell your capitals that there is this project that is absolutely unique in the way it is being implemented….I hope you get an opportunity to look at the project so that you can tell your capitals that this man is just not a dreamer,” said Gonsalves.

Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne also thanked the overseas delegates for coming to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to witness the national parade, held at the Victoria Park. He also thanked all the people of the nation for coming out to the parade.

Persons then raised their glasses in a toast to the nation.

Cultural performances were done by the Arabesque dancers. Ken Isles provided music on the pan and rendered a few songs.(KW)
