Senior Citizens enthused about computer training

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) hosted an open day at the Black Point Golden Years Activity Centre on Tuesday, October 1, 2011.{{more}}

Officials from the NTRC demonstrated to the senior citizens how to use the computer and access the Internet.

The senior citizens took the session seriously and were very enthusiastic about the training offered by the NTRC. Many of the senior citizens said they refrained from using the computer because they felt it was for young people. They have dispelled this mindset and are inspired to learn more about computers; and to make use of computers whenever an opportunity arises.

Universal Service Fund (USF) Administrator Kyron Duncan said the NTRC is concerned about the continuous education of all persons, especially, senior citizens. Duncan said the NTRC is embarking on a sensitization drive to inform the public of the free wireless Internet in 27 educational institutions, including 12 Learning Resource Centres. According to Duncan, the NTRC will soon be visiting Chapmans, Owia and other areas with this initiative.
