âSunny Kingâ, as he was popular known, won the first King of the Bands title when it was introduced in 1966.
His winning portrayal came from the 1966 Band of the year Ocean Extravaganza, a presentation of legendary Band Leader and designer Selwyn âFuzzyâ Knights, which was also Knightsâ first victory in the Band of the Year Competition.
Sunny King remained a leading member of the Fuzzy Knights Mas Camp, following which he became a member of the Nelson Bloc Mas band until his recent passing.
âHe was genuinely committed to the Masquerade art form and was one of those costume builders who came out of the Paulâs Avenue area. He was a loyal and dedicated worker in the Nelson Bloc Mas Camp,â a release from the CBA said.
The Carnival Bands Association (CBA) extends condolences to his family, friends and Nelson Bloc. The CBA also acknowledges his interest in the sport of Football, his community involvement, and his political activism over the years.
May his soul rest in peace!
