CT scan machine operators trained

A team of six radiographers and two radiologists at the Radiology Department of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital completed a four-day training session on CT scan operations at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, which began on October 11 and concluded on October 14.{{more}}

The training session was held under the watchful eye of the General Electric representative application specialist.

This cutting edge technology was made possible by the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, along with the National Insurance Services and the Bank of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Minister of Health and Wellness Cecil McKie said that it is important that the radiology staff become comfortable with the procedures of the machine. He said that the technicians were trained in a number of subject areas ranging from safety of equipment, scanning and imaging management.

McKie said that the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital now has a unit that is better equipped to perform procedures with the CT scan machine. He said that the rates charged are competitive with the rest of the region and prices vary on the procedures being done. He reminded the public that these scans cannot be approved without a doctor’s referral.

Chief Radiographer Ezra Richards gave a brief overview of the training session. He said that the training obtained was indeed valuable. He said that although the session was short, the instructor taught them a great deal in a limited amount of time. Richards said that it was indeed a great achievement for him and his colleagues and they are now ready to assist and cater to the public’s needs.

On October 17, two Vincentians travelled to the United States to take part in a three-week course in the use of the CT scan machine.
