Ambrose made the call on Friday, October 14, at the fifth annual Breast Cancer Awareness march and rally at Heritage Square.
Pink outfits flooded the streets of Kingstown, as scores of persons got involved in the awareness campaign dubbed, âPink Cap City Walkâ
In her address, Dr. Ambrose said a great effort was made in raising the awareness of breast cancer.
Stressing on the importance of regular check-ups, Ambrose said, âWe would like everyone, males and females, to develop the habit checking our breasts on a regular basis because breast cancer is a real issue in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We would like to improve our survival rate here in this country by early detection of any cancer which may develop in the breast.â
The awareness campaign saw Minister of Health Cecil McKie, former Culture Minister Rene Baptiste and other members of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association marching from Heritage Square, along Bay Street, then onto Halifax Street from where they re-assembled at Heritage Square.
Dance routines were performed by some of the participants in the march, while others sang songs. The C.W.Prescod Primary School was also there, providing musical accompaniment on the drums.
A moment of silence was also observed for persons who have passed away from Breast Cancer.
Chairman of the event Anthony Theobalds reinforced Ambroseâs advice to conduct self-checks to improve survival rates in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.(KW)
