Canouan Government School gets a facelift courtesy CCA

The management of Canouan Resort Developers (CRD) and its construction arm CCA have come in for high praise from local education and government officials for the refurbishment of the Canouan Government School.{{more}}

During the symbolic handover of the school last Friday, October 7, the assembly was informed by Chief Operations Officer and CCA General Manager Elena Korach that the refurbishing of the school was completed at a cost of $350,000, and included, among other things, the tiling of the floors, installation of ceiling fans, and the painting and fencing of the school.

Also included in the project was the construction of a car park for teachers, a playground for the students, and the planting of trees and developing of a pond just outside the school.

The company will also contribute to the school’s school feeding program, and support its Pan Against Crime initiative.

“CRD Holdings has always vested an interest in the community and development of the people of Canouan, especially the children, for indeed, they are the future of Canouan,” Korach noted, as she reinforced the company’s commitment to the community and island.

The senior education officials present (Minister of Education Girlyn Miguel and Chief Education Officer Lou-anne Gilchrist) used the opportunity to thank the contractors for the gesture, which Gilchrist referred to as an example of positive partnership.

“These are the partnerships that will ensure that education remains on sound footing and that our nation’s most important resource develops and contributes to national growth and development.”

According to Miguel, through the gesture, the CCA has proven that it supports the education and lives of the students on Canouan.

“Financing education is not an easy task. Therefore, initiatives such as this project which supports the community are welcomed and appreciated by the Ministry of Education.”

Miguel and Gilchrist urged the students to take care of their surroundings, and called on parents to play their part in the upkeep of the school.

Also speaking at the ceremony were school headteacher Jacqueline Charles and Southern Grenadines constituency caretaker Edwin Snagg, who both showered gratitude on the company for the makeover that the school had received.

They joined with education officials in indicating that they looked forward to future partnerships between the CCA and the institution.(JJ)
