An exhibition is being held today, October 14, showcasing the produce, agro-processed products, arts, craft and cultural artistry of farmers and residents on the Leeward side of St. Vincent.{{more}}

The exhibition, which is organized by the Staff of Agricultural Region 1, is the annual World Food Day Exhibition, and will be held at Peter’s Hope in the Germplasm Plot opposite the new Central Leeward Secondary School.

According the Regional Supervisor Leroy Jackson, the exhibition promises to be one with a difference. Jackson said that this exhibition will be a non-competitive one, but will feature similar exhibits as those held before. Therefore, patrons will be able to view a range of agricultural produce from the area, including New technologies being introduced to improve productivity on the farms; Services offered by the host Ministry (Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Transformation, Forestry and Fisheries); Some of the local wild life species; An organoleptic testing (Tasting Test) of Chips made from 5 or more varieties of sweet potato; Sampling of dishes made from wild meat and fish; A display of products made from cocoa, including the local ‘cocoa tea’; Displays of products used in agriculture and related industries from a number of agencies.

The Exhibition will be opened for viewing at 10:00am, with an official ceremony at 2:00 p.m.

Jackson stated that the opportunity will be used to officially open the Germplasm site, which has been jointly developed by the Organisation of American States and the government of SVG into an Agro-Tourism product. A number of government officials will address the session, together with cultural presentations from schools and other groups from the Leeward communities.

The Exhibition is being celebrated under the theme “Food Prices – From Crisis to Stability” and will come to a close late this evening.
