Buildings to be officially opened in Canouan today

A team of government officials, including Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Minister of Education Girlyn Miguel, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Godfred Pompey, will visit Canouan today, October 7, for the opening of two key buildings on that Grenadine Island.{{more}}

During the morning period, Education Minister will preside over the official opening of the Marine Learning Resource Centre. This facility was constructed by CCA Ltd., at a cost of EC$1.5 million. It will provide facilities for those Vincentians who are interested in furthering their studies in matters related to the marine environment.

Before this, Minister Miguel will visit the refurbished Canouan Primary School to meet with the staff and students during the assembly period. The school was given a facelift by the CCA, at a cost of approximately EC$350,000, that saw changes to the floor space, windows, bathrooms and perimeter of the school.

In the afternoon at 2:00 pm, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will deliver the feature address at the opening of the new Canouan Administrative Building.

Other addresses will come from Elena Korach of CCA Ltd., Edwin Snagg, the Director of Grenadines Affairs, and the parliamentary representative for the Southern Grenadines, Terrence Ollivierre.

This building, with over 11,904 square metres of space was constructed at a cost of EC$4.7 million, and will provide offices for Canouan Revenue Department, the Post Office, Immigration Services, the Tourism Bureau and the Magistrate’s office.

In addition, there is accommodation for workers from the mainland, a stand- by generator and a 72,000 US gallon storage cistern.

The government officials will return to the mainland later this afternoon.
