Rene Baptiste heads Girl Guides Association
Rene Baptiste has been elected President of the Girl Guides Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}
Baptiste, a former Minister of Government, was elected when the Association held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, September 24, at the Girl Guide Headquarters at Level Garden, Kingstown.
The AGM heard reports from outgoing President June Russell and Outgoing Chief Commissioner Althea Commissiong, as well as the Treasurerâs Report presented by Michelle Samuel and the Training Commissionerâs Report of Mrs. France.
The Guide Movement recorded significant activities in the 2009-2010 year, among them the Peace Day Rally, the Human Pink Ribbon by the Medical Association, the 95th Anniversary Celebration Rally in Georgetown, the Candlelight Event of the House of Hope. The Patron of the Association Dame Monica Dacon received congratulations on her Award of D.B.E Dame Bachelor.
At Saturdayâs meeting, Rechanne Browne-Matthias was also elected Chief Commissioner. Other persons elected to fill the vacancies on the Executive were Dr. Monica Davis, Vice President, and Zoe Williams, Counsellor.
Special Tribute was paid to the Stalwarts of the Guide Movement in St. Vincent and the Grenadines: June Russell, who has spent the last 60 years in Guiding. She met Lady Baden-Powell personally in April, 1951; Irma Norris, who has been a member since 1934; Nina Maloney, Former Executive Member; Grace Morris, Life Vice President, and Jeanette France.
The Girl Guide Movement will celebrate its DIAMOND JUBILEE in 2014. The Membership of the Movement is currently over 1900 across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
