Courts Reading Competition is back

Primary school students, along with teachers, administrators, and sponsors are all geared up and looking forward to the third installation of the local leg of the Courts OECS Reading Competition, scheduled to kick off on Monday, September 26.{{more}}

The competition will see most of the nation’s primary schools participating in the event in seven zones, with the finals slated for October 16.

Students will be required to read two impromptu passages, one in the form of a narrative and the other, a news item and answer at least one comprehension question.

The competitors will be judged on reading fluency, accuracy, enunciation, confidence, expression and comprehension.

Local Marketing Officer of Courts Alexis John, speaking at a press conference this Wednesday, announced what was in store for participants in the competition, and indicated that the prizes get better at the local and regional finals.

“Every participant at the zonal level will receive books from Jujube Bookstore…. The winner gets $2,000 and the winning school gets $2,000. Also the winner gets the right to represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the regional final which will be taking place in St. Kitts.”

“The winner gets to read a segment of local news on SVG TV, and that is indeed exciting.”

“Second place will receive $1,000, third place will get $750 and fourth and fifth places will walk away with $500.
