Thompson, who is now a Consultant in charge of Special Projects in the Prime Minister’s Office, made the statement at a recently held press Conference, at the Ministry of Telecommunications conference room in the CLICO building.

“We are hearing more now about our innovators and I am now pleased to reveal that a new company in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will soon be assembling mobile cell phones,” said Thompson.

When questioned about the name of the company and its affiliation here, a tight-lipped Thompson only disclosed that the initiative is a joint venture between Gideon Browne, owner of Brown’s Hardware and a company from mainland China.

According to Thompson, “this new project is expected to be launched within the next week and a half.”

The former Telecommunications Minister went on to say that he is content with the advancement in the area of Information and Technology throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

“I am very pleased with what we’ve able to put together with the assistance of the Caribbean Telecommunication Union (CTU), of which St. Vincent and the Grenadines still holds the Vice-Presidency.

“We have been able to bring in a number of world renowned experts in their field and harnessing a lot of local innovators and some of our local experts. We are looking to bring to you, the various stakeholders, what information technology is all about.”

“There should be no doubt that St. Vincent and the Grenadines is serious about our advancement in the field of ICT,” Dr. Thompson stated.

Meanwhile, St. Vincent and the Grenadines is among the twenty Caribbean countries which are a part of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) ICT Roadshow.
