Vincentian young women represent SVG at Youth Conference in Martinique

Collette Johnson and Jeanette Fitzpatrick represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines at this year’s Caribbean Youth Conference in Martinique (La Quinzaine de la Jeunesse Caribéenne).{{more}} The conference was organized by l’Organisation Martiniquaise pour le Developpement des Arts et de la Culture (OMDAC) and ran from July 30 to August 13.

During the conference, the two young women participated in discussions, exhibitions and performances around the island of Martinique. They also had the opportunity to visit different historical and tourists sites on the island. Among the topics discussed were issues such as: Intercaribbean Solidarity, Knowledge and Prevention of Natural Risks, Defending Cultural Heritage, The Role of Women in the Emancipation of the Caribbean and Economic and Sustainable Development.

This year’s Youth Conference saw participation from Haiti, Dominican Republic, St.Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, St.Lucia, St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago.

Jeanette and Colette wish to express gratitude to the Alliance Francaise for giving them the opportunity to participate in the conference; the Ministry of Tourism for donating items for the exhibitions; and OMDAC for a wonderful and meaningful experience.
