Sex charges pile up in Kingstown courts

Almost each week since July, men have been appearing before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court to answer charges of indecent assault, incest, unlawful sex and rape, and this week was no exception.{{more}}

On Wednesday of this week alone, three men were hauled before the court to answer rape and unlawful sex charges.

Richland Park resident Ronel Bobb appeared at the court and was slapped with seven charges of unlawful sex with a girl under the age of 15. The incidents were allegedly committed between July 1, 2010, and May 30, 2011.

He was remanded in custody and should have returned to court yesterday for bail review.

Another man, Kishnell John of Troumaca, was also charged with having sex with a girl under the age of 15 on August 15, 2011. John pleaded guilty to the charge and the matter was transferred to the Family Court where he will be sentenced.

He was released on $8,000 bail with one surety.

Next in line was New Montrose businessman Peter Joseph. Joseph was charged for having sex with a girl without her consent on August 9, 2011. He, too, was granted $8,000 bail and was ordered to report to the Central Police Station on Mondays.

Just last week, on Friday, August 19, two accused were hauled before the court.
Alderman Henry, 45, labourer of Calder was arrested and charged with eight counts of rape on a 14 year-old girl between March 10, 2008, and July 13, 2011.
He was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 with one surety and was ordered to surrender all his travel documents. An order was also made for Henry to report to the Stubbs Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 6am and 6pm.

The matter were transferred to the Family Court for hearing on September 15.

Following Henry was 45-year-old Fisherman of Campden Park Brian Jack. Jack appeared before Senior Magistrate Donald Browne on nine counts of indecent assault on two girls under the age of 15, between April 22, 2010, and July 1, 2011. He was also charged with four counts of rape on a girl under the age of 13. These incidents are alleged to have been committed between December 21, 2007, and April 22, 2011.

Jack appeared at the Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was remanded in custody and the matter was transferred to the Family Court for hearing on September 29, 2011.

Friday, August 12, was 17-year-old Anthony John’s turn to face the court. The Lauders resident was charged with having sex with a girl from another Caribbean island, who is under the age of 15, at Lauders, on July 29, 2011.

He, too, was granted bail in the sum of $8,000 and was ordered to report to the Biabou police station on Mondays. The matter was adjourned and transferred to the Family Court for hearing on September 15, 2011.

Appearing at the court on August 17 was Kenville Lewis, a labourer of Questelles.

He was granted $10,500 bail after being slapped with two charges of unlawful sex. Lewis is charged with having sex with a girl under the age of 15 on August 14, 2011.

He was also charged with having sex with a girl under the age of 13 between April 1 and 30, 2010.

That matter was adjourned to September 7, 2011, for hearing.

On Friday, July 12, over 155 charges of rape, incest and carnal knowledge were brought against a man in his forties. The man is alleged to have committed the acts with his four daughters between 2007 and 2011. The man’s son was also slapped with two charges of carnal knowledge and two counts of incest on one of his sisters.

Police constable Kevin Thompson also found himself on the wrong side of the law as he is charged with rape. Thompson is now out on $15,000 bail after appearing at the Family Court on a charge of rape on Tuesday, July 26.

It is alleged that Thompson, who was at the time stationed at the Questelles Police Station, committed the offence while the girl was in police custody.
