SEARCHLIGHT understands that on Monday, when the employee arrived at work, she was informed of the investigation and asked to take vacation leave.
A usually reliable source told SEARCHLIGHT that officials at the IRD first became suspicious when a discrepancy with a receipt was identified. This discovery led to other checks, which revealed evidence which seems to point to misappropriation of government funds over a period of about two years.
Our source indicated that initial checks have put the funds which are alleged to have been misappropriated in excess of $100,000.
