SVG records an overall pass rate of 67.45 per cent in 2011 CSEC examination
St. Vincent and the Grenadines obtained an overall pass rate of 67.45 per cent in this yearâs Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Secondary Education Certificate Examinations (CSEC).{{more}}
A release from the Ministry of Education said that this yearâs results were received on August 12.
This year, 2990 candidates were registered. Of these, 1,391 were private entries and 1,599 were school entries. This compares with 2,846 candidates in 2010, with 1,304 being private candidates and 1,542 being school candidates.
There were 10,809 subject entries in 33 subject areas, from 26 secondary schools. Approximately 67.45 per cent of the subject entries were awarded Grades 1-3 (the corresponding figure in 2010 was 69 per cent, and 66 per cent in 2009).
This year, 8.98 per cent of the passes were at Grade 1 level, 23.84 per cent at Grade 2 and 35.07 per cent at Grade 3. Last yearâs figures were 9.53 per cent, 25.94 per cent and 33.69 per cent respectively.
Three schools recorded percentage pass rates in excess of 80 per cent. These schools are: The Girlsâ High School (96.11%), the St. Vincent Grammar School (88.66%), and St. Josephâs Convent Kingstown (86.29%).
Four schools obtained creditable pass rates between 70 and 80%. These were St. Josephâs Convent, Marriaqua (77.76%), Union Island Secondary School (77.43%), Mountain View Adventist Academy (76.67%) and Thomas Saunders Secondary School (72.96%). The school which recorded the most significant improvement is the Intermediate High School whose pass rate increased from 34% in 2010 to 55 % in 2011.
This yearâs outstanding results include one student with twelve Grade 1 passes including eleven distinctions and one student with eleven Grade 1 passes and one Grade 2 pass. In total, four students obtained twelve passes and thirty-four gained eleven passes. These students are from the Girlâs High School, St. Vincent Grammar School, St. Martinâs Secondary School, St. Josephâs Convent, Marriaqua, Mountain View Academy and Union Island Secondary School.
