Courts rewards secondary schools

Furniture and Appliance Giants Courts St. Vincent Limited has rewarded the three secondary schools for their participation in an international environmental competition.{{more}}

On Wednesday this week, Courts Marketing Manager Alexis John handed over cheques valued at $300, $200 and $100 to the Campden Park Secondary School, Buccament Bay Secondary and West St. George Secondary, for placing first, second and third, respectively, in the local leg of the Caribbean Youth Environment Network’s collage competition.

The competition, funded by the United Nations Environment Program, under the theme ‘A future that is pollution free – join hands to protect our Caribbean sea’, saw the schools creating images depicting a cleaner marine environment.

The creation by the Campden Park Secondary School propels them into the regional leg of the competition, and will pit their work against those of more than 20 other school based clubs, Non Governmental Organizations, Faith based Groups, and others.

Local Coordinator of CYEN and the month long competition Yoland London indicated that the competition was designed to raise awareness of the importance of the environment, and thanked Courts St. Vincent Limited for recognizing the importance of environment based initiatives.

She indicated that this was not the first time that the company has assisted her organization, noting that Courts had enthusiastically helped in a beach clean-up campaign last September.

“We are really excited that Courts has shown corporate responsibility. We are grateful and commend Courts and hope that this is the beginning of a new relationship.”

Courts Marketing Manager Alexis John on handing over the cheques indicated that his company was passionate about education and the environment, and emphasised that Courts was pleased to work along with the CYEN to serve these two areas.
