Book of art and poetry of Vincentian women to be launched today

A book featuring the art and poetry of Vincentian women will be launched today.{{more}}

The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the National Council of Women, will today launch a new book: “Seen And Heard,” An Anthology Of Art and Poetry by Vincentian Women.

The book of Vincentian art and poetry contains works by 14 local women, including poetry by well known poets Peggy Carr, Nelcia Robinson-Hazell, Nora Peacock and Debra Providence, with artwork by Vonnie Roudette, Narissa Ballantyne, and others.

“Seen and Heard” came out of an exhibition of art and poetry held at the Venezuelan Embassy in June 2009 and was produced with the assistance of the Embassy to expose to the general public the tenacious work of Vincentian artists who participated, and also as the Embassy’s contribution to a culture of friendship, solidarity and peace with the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The launch will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation, located at Sutherland’s Building, Murray Road, Kingstown. Addresses will come from the Venezuelan Ambassador, Minister of Culture Frederick Stephenson, the Coordinator of the Gender Affairs Department and Nelcia Robinson-Hazell. There will be presentations of poetry from the book, along with steel pan music.

A Poetry Workshop will follow tomorrow, Saturday, 6th August, 2011, at the institute for interested persons, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The workshop will be conducted by Azul Urdaneta, a visiting professor from Venezuela.
