No new increase in bus fares
Members of the general public are being reminded that there has been no recent increase in minibus fares, but an implementation of the rates approved by Cabinet on April 6, 2005.{{more}}
According to a news release from the Ministry of Transport, Works, Urban Development and Local Government, the National Omni Bus Association (NOBA) has submitted a proposal to the Transport Board for an increase in the bus fares, which is currently being discussed.
The release stated that the fares that were recently implemented were those that were approved by Cabinet back in 2005, but had not been implemented in all the areas and that NOBA has agreed to implement these approved fares in the areas in which it was not previously done.
The approved rates are as follows:
Fitzhughes and beyond – $6; Chateaubelair, Petit Bordel, Rose Hall – $5; Spring Village, Coulls Hill – $4.50; Wallilabou, Keartons, Barrouallie – $4; Rilan – $2; Layou, Buccament, Vermont – $3; Clare Valley – $2; Chauncey, Questelles, Campden Park – $1.50; Lowmans Hill, Sion Hill – $1; Cane Hall, Arnos Vale – $1.50; Richland Park – $4; Carriere, Riley, Evesham – $3; Mesopotamia – $2.50; Belmont, Fairbain Pasture – $2; Welcome, Kelbourney, Gomea – $2.50; Fancy – $7; Owia – $6; Point, Sandy Bay, Overland, Orange Hill – $6; Byera, Colonaire, South Rivers, Park Hill – $5; Georgetown, Dickson – $5.50; San Souci, Diamonds, New Grounds, North Union, Lowmans Wd, Greiggs, Mt Grenan, South Union – $4; New AProspect, Cedars, Bridgetown – $3.50; Peruvian Vale, Spring, Biabou – $3.50; Argyle, Calder, Mt Pleasant, Stubbs – $3; Diamond, Enhams, Brighton, Glamorgan – $2.50; Prospect, Ratho Mill, Fair Hall – $2.25; Calliaqua, Glen, Villa – $2 and for any distance under one mile – $1.
The approved rates for school children in uniform: 4 to 11 years – 50 per cent; over 11 – 75 per cent.
School children out of uniform under 16 – 75 per cent.
