In the meeting, a draft plan was discussed to enhance the role of the Tourist Police, increasing patrols in heavily populated tourist areas, yacht protection, Grenadines marine patrol, and the fast tracking of prosecution matters, when crimes are committed on visitors.
The Ministry of Tourism hosted a meeting in Union Island on Sunday with stakeholders in the Tourism sector and senior members of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, to put in place collective measures to enhance the security in the Southern Grenadines. Edwin Snagg, the Director for Grenadines Affairs, was also in attendance.
The Minister noted that whilst there is a significant decrease in crime in the country, as a result of the efforts of the government and its partnership with other stakeholders, we have to continue to stress a âzero toleranceâ approach to any sort of criminal activity which will affect the tourism sector.
He stated that crimes against anyone will not be tolerated, but the Ministry of Tourism and Industry has a special interest in working with the Ministry of National Security to ensure the best security for our visitors.
