Charles named as Bishop of the Diocese for Bridgetown, Barbados and Kingstown, SVG

Monsignor Charles Jason Gordon, a priest of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain and member of the Living Water Community, has been appointed as Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgetown, Barbados and Diocese of Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

The appointment was announced by Pope Benedict on Friday, July 8, 2011, at 6.00 a.m. Eastern Caribbean time and 12 noon Rome time.

Msgr. Gordon lectured at the Seminary of St. John Vianney and the Uganda Martyrs and is the Episcopal Vicar for Administration in the Archdiocese of Port of Spain.

Msgr. Gordon, who is 52 years old, was ordained to the Priesthood on March 19, 1991, and will be ordained Bishop of Bridgetown on September 21, and installed as Bishop of Kingstown at a later date.

With the appointment of Msgr. Gordon the Diocese of Kingstown passes from the Ecclesiastical Province of Castries to become a suffragan of the Metropolitan See of Port of Spain.

Pope Benedict also announced the appointment of Father Joseph Harris, CSSp, a member of the Holy Ghost Congregation, as Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain. He is the Judicial Vicar and Vicar for Clergy of the Archdiocese. Harris, who is 69 years old, was a former Rector and Lecturer at the Regional Seminary of St. John Vianney and the Uganda Martyrs in Trinidad. He also worked in the Missions in Paraguay in his earlier years as a priest. He was ordained to the Priesthood on July 14, 1968 and will be ordained as Coadjutor Archbishop of Port of Spain on September 14, 2011.
