Speaking at a media conference on Wednesday, July 6, Miller said, âAll in all, we believe that Carnival was very peaceful and quiet, notwithstanding the killing at Heritage Square.â
Clevedon Chewitt succumbed to a stab wound to his neck, after it is alleged that he and another man were involved in an altercation.
Green Hill resident, Tyson Spencer is charged with Chewittâs murder.
Giving a rundown of the offences that took place over the Carnival weekend, Miller reported that there were two reports of indecent assault; three reports of wounding; four assaults, causing bodily harm; seven reports of theft; three of damage to property; three house break-ins; three arrests for cannabis and 14 reports of offensive weapons.
He told reporters that the offensive weapons figure is down from that of last year.
Miller also commended the public for cooperating with the police and also thanked his men for doing a great job with the large crowd in town.
âWe are expecting members from the Regional Security System (RSS) to come here and give our policemen continued training in what is known as Internal Security,â Miller said.
He noted that part of the training will be done on crowd patrol. âIt is not easy to put policemen on the streets to deal with large crowds, given the way some persons behave,â said the Commissioner.
The Commissioner also thanked the radio announcers for helping the police spread the word of not bringing any weapons into Kingstown.
â…Law and order is not only the responsibility of the police,â Miller said.(KW)
