3rd straight win for Sion Hill Euphonium
âWe come to get onâ was their name of their song. And thatâs exactly what the National Lotteries Authority Sion Hill Euphonium did on Sunday, July 3, as they took home the title of panorama champions for the third consecutive year.{{more}}
Held at the Victoria Park, Sion Hill did enough to stave off a great performance from the Sea Operations Starlift, who, with a brilliant performance, were bumped into second position with their rendition âIron Manâ.
Potential Steel Orchestra, which was undoubtedly neck and neck with the others, had to settle for the third spot with their rendition âJam Demâ.
The group, which is celebrating 30 years in existence, came on stage with a swagger that immediately grabbed the crowdâs attention.
Decked in green and blue outfits that glittered in the bright lights, Sion Hill beat their pans with precision and passion, which in turn gave them the edge over their competitors.
Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT, member of the band Rodney Small said the group feels elated by grabbing a hat-trick.
â…We had to wait a long time to win at the senior level. the band is 30 years old and we had to wait 27 years to win…,â Rodney explained.
The young pannist said the win means much more than just bragging rights for Sion Hill. âThis is just another stepping stone in our achievements and development,â he added.
The show was originally scheduled to be held on June 30, but because of an electrical problem, the show had to be pushed back to Sunday.
The other pan sides taking part in the competition were: South East Steel Orchestra with their rendition âHappyâ; Dynamic Stars with âBounce Backâ and Elite, with âWine Downâ. (KW)
