‘Recka’ is LIME Ragga/Soca Champion

‘Recka’ is LIME Ragga/Soca Champion

Recardo “Recka” Wilson is the LIME Ragga/Soca champion.

Last Friday, June 24, Recka, with his song for this year “If Ah Rude Ah Rude”, found the favour of the three judges to earn him the nod above the other 14 competitors who performed before a huge “after work” crowd on the LIME Promenade.{{more}}

The show is one in a series of build up Carnival shows that started several weeks ago as the Super Platinum sponsor and official telecommunications provider for Vincy Mas seeks to add value to its sponsorship of this country’s premiere cultural festival.

It was dubbed “Who didn’t make it”. The show featured the Ragga Soca and Soca artistes who didn’t make it to the finals of the CDC organized shows. The event was a real enactment of the Soca Monarch Finals, and artistes competed for one prize of $1,500 and a Flat screen television set, plus a “People’s Choice” prize of $500. All artistes sang one song, and the huge crowd was left gasping and eyes fixed on stage as the artistes presented their songs with dancers and props.

The event attracted the young and upcoming Soca artistes who are on the verge of making it into the mainstream entertainment, plus some veterans who didn’t find the favor of the judges. The competition was judged on lyrics, melody, presentation and crowd response. Among the artistes taking part were D’Landlord, Tamaisha, Alla G, Beenie West, Lil Pain, Vyrus, Suitty, Bunny Rebel and Pat Ralph.

Recka was understandably happy to be the champion and thanked LIME for the idea. “I really wanted to win the television set for my mom. This was my first motivation. Secondly, I wanted to show what I can do on stage since there are not many opportunities for artistes to show their craft outside of private shows and CDC organized shows, so LIME created this opportunity for us to show the people what we have been preparing for all year. The concept is one that is novel and can develop into a main event for Vincy Mas, since only a few artistes can get into the finals, and who don’t get to the finals are usually ignored and forgotten,” commented Recka.

The People’s Choice prize of $500 went to Lil Pain, who turned in a magical performance that had the crowd jumping as he mesmerized them with his “Swag”.

Angus Steele, LIME General Manager, was extremely pleased with the crowd support and the professionalism of the contestants. He disclosed: “LIME will continue to invent and support the CDC with new ideas and opportunities to improve the Carnival product. LIME is also about Entertainment, and as we await the launch of LIME TV, we can use the footage from these shows for local TV content. These artistes can look forward to similar activities for the remainder of this year’s festival.”

Gao made a guest appearance and had the crowd in a frenzy with his hits for this year “Who jump the sheep” and “Nooni juice”.

Godfrey Dublin turned back the clock with his comeback hit “Any number could play”.

The show also saw appearance from Adrenaline Mas Band and models from Silhouette.

The show was definitely an enormous success and one to look for in the future.
