Mt Wynne beach now ‘cleaner than before’
The private side of Mt Wynne beach has been restored to its former glory – following concerns over garbage that was left there after a beach party.{{more}}
In the Tuesday, June 28, issue of SEARCHLIGHT, it was reported that garbage bags left behind by the organisers of âBottlez and Bikinizâ were bitten through by stray animals, and their contents strewn across the beach.
Event organiser Alex Barnwell was keen to let the public know that the mishap was not intentional, and that all traces of the garbage have now been removed.
âIt is unfortunate that it was not understood that this was work in progress, and not a situation that was not being managed,â he explained.
Barnwell added that due to a âseries of unfortunate eventsâ, the garbage was left on the beach longer than originally intended.
Barnwell provided SEACRHLIGHT with photographs of the beach after he and a team of volunteers worked to collect the remainder of the garbage on Monday, June 27.
He pointed out, however, that before he was able to set up for his event, which was held on Sunday, June 19, he and his team had to clear corners of the beach of old garbage and broken glass.
Barnwell said he also had to spend money hiring handymen to cut the grass and prune bushes and tress, so that his patrons could best enjoy the venue.
He aired his displeasure at the unsatisfactory condition in which he found the beach, and urged other promoters to leave venues in pristine condition, so that those who follow will not have to incur unnecessary expenses.
Barnwell said: âI would like people to respect the beach… so other people can enjoy it like we have.â(JV)
