Miller, at a press briefing on Monday, June 27, disclosed that eight persons were arrested and charged over the weekend for being in possession of offensive weapons.
He said seven of those pleaded guilty to their charges and were placed on curfew. One man, Rodel Hazelwood, 43, a farmer of Layou, was sentenced to four years in jail after pleading guilty to possession of a semi-automatic pistol and five rounds of .45 ammunition when he appeared at the Serious Offences Court.
He was also given an 18 month prison sentence for the ammunition. Both sentences will run concurrently.
âI want to compliment members of the RRU for being very vigilant during the stop and search period…if it were not for our policemen, we would not have discovered so many offensive weapons,â he said.
Miller assured the public that they will continue to be vigilant in their stop and search efforts.(KW)
