Food City closes: Consolidated Food Ltd to open

In about three month’s time, Vincentians can expect to see a new business set up in the same location of the National Properties Food City Supermarket.{{more}}

Callistus Thompson, manager at Food City Inc., told Searchlight that the new company, Consolidated Food Limited, is one of the largest supermarket chains in St. Lucia, and will be coming to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Thompson also observed that the new company is ‘not one of the regular supermarkets’, adding that they offer services such as “cash and carry and wholesale.”

Making way for the new company, the Food City Inc. has been busy over the last few weeks as the supermarket had its closing sales. Thompson stated that the supermarket has had sales for the last two weeks, first offering a 10 per cent discount, and then a 25 per cent discount on items during the second week.

On Friday, June 24, Searchlight visited the supermarket, which was thick with customers who took the opportunity to secure items, which were on 50 per cent discount. Most of the shelves were however empty, some littered with a few products.

Thompson admitted that sales were hectic during the last few weeks, adding that they have had a full house since Monday, June 20.

Thompson thanked all the loyal customers of the National Properties Food City Inc. for all their support over the years. Food City Inc. officially closes its doors on Thursday, June 30, 2011.

He also encouraged customers to support the new company.(OS)
