The event is slated to take place at Aunty Bâs Pre-School.
The Diamonites Community Organisation along with the Diamond Government School, parents, and community members launched a series of monthly parenting sessions on Tuesday, June 7.
Members of the community gathered at Aunty Bâs Preschool to hear a presentation on Parentâs Mental Health by Dr. Amrie Morris-Patterson.
Morris-Patterson provided her outlook on mental health as a doctor, a parent and trained psychiatrist at the Mental Health Centre.
She spoke about the stress that parents face and the negative and long-term effects that such challenges can have on the body and emotional state.
Citing a US study from Florida State University and Vanderbilt University, Morris stated that parents lead a more stressful life than persons who choose not to have any children.
She urged parents to find time for themselves and to eat healthy foods and exercise on a regular basis.
She recommended taking a little time after children go to bed to read a book, take a bath, or do some simple stretches.
Morris closed by explaining that remaining mentally healthy as a parent requires a balance between spending time and listening to their children, completing their chores and tasks, and taking time for themselves.
The July 12 event is the second session of the series.
