PM – It’s impossible to change results
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is perplexed about rumours which have been circulating over the past two weeks pertaining to the performance of the St. Maryâs Roman Catholic School in this yearâs Common Entrance Examination.{{more}}
âI still canât find out what the rumour is about. Because anybody who I ask, who tells me about it, I say but, why would I not want the Roman Catholic School to do as well as they say it did?â
In the week leading up to the release of the Common Entance results, it had been strongly rumoured that the first four positions in the exam had been taken by students of the school located at North River Road in Kingstown. However, when the results were released late on Thursday, June 9, the school only had one student in the top 10; at position number six.
This, combined with the fact that the results were released one day later than they have been in the last few years, led to speculation among some persons that the prime minister had conspired to have the results changed.
âExplain this to me. I donât understand it,â Gonsalves, himself a Roman Catholic, said.
âHow do I get involved in this? What do I have to gain by … going against the Roman Catholic school? Nobody has any logic to tell me,â he stated.
âThe way the results are done, there is no way in heavenâs world that anybody can go and contrive these things. You are going to require a conspiracy of several persons. The way they are marked and put together, I canât conceive how that can be done!â the prime minister said.
