Sawkins – We are awaiting the International Airport

The Harlequin Hotels and Resorts developers are eagerly awaiting the completion of the Argyle International Airport.{{more}}

“The airport will be a big role as well, in our success… .We can’t wait for it to open its doors so we can fly in bigger planes,” said Mark Sawkins, Vice President of Operations at Harlequin Hotels & Resorts, during an interview with SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday, June 8.

He said the progress of the international airport project to an extent dictates the building pattern of the multi-million dollar resort.

“It doesn’t help to have 500 hundred units ready here and I can’t get the guests in,” said Sawkins.

He stated that at times it has been quite challenging getting guests into the country.

Also, he noted that the operation could have been more viable if there were direct flights here, instead of having to hire private charter flights from St.Lucia.

He said the resort is also trying to utilise LIAT, but is still constrained to bring in six to 10 guests at a time when it desires to bring 56 to 100 guests at one time.

“That’s a challenge,” said Sawkins.

Meanwhile, David Campion, Development Director at Harlequin Developments, said the resort would like to use the new international airport as a pace setter for development in St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
