On Wednesday, June 1, Bertram was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) after ingesting the poision.
Inether told SEARCHLIGHT that her husband has been an alcoholic for most of their 23 years of marriage, and while being intoxicated on Sunday, May 29, he hit their son Hubert Holder, who has a disability, with a cutlass. She said Bertram âplannedâ their son when the young man failed to open their house immediately after the father requested that he did so.
The mother of four said that she was at work when the incident with her son happened; however, this incident preceded the events that led to her husband drinking the pesticide used to control insects in a wide variety of field crops.
Inether said after confronting Bertram about hitting their son and informing him that she had reported the matter to the Family Court, he cursed, took his file and started sharpening his cutlass and knife.
âHe said âeverybody going (expletive) hellâ, he ainât care, âeverybody going (expletive) hellâ,â said Inether.
âI was just watching his movement,â Inether recalled.
She said he told one of his sons not to lock the weed trimmer room, because he had some things in there that he wanted to take out.
âHe go into the weed trimmer room, take out whatever he wanted to take out. Then he came into the house with a cup in his hand and had some thing in it, I donât know whether it was water or what, but he had it spinning and said âeverybody going seeâ,â said Inether.
She said when she went into the kitchen, the cup was lying in the sink empty.
By that time, Bertram had already ingested the poison.
Inether said she immediatelly called one of Betramâs sisters and informed her about the incident and after the sister spoke with Bertram, he confirmed to his sibling that he had indeed drunk the poision.
Inether said after drinking the poison, Bertram did not stay at home. She claims that he took a walk down the road, where he started bleeding through his nostrils. He was eventually rushed to the MCMH.
The upset woman said that while some of Bertramâs relatives are claiming that she gave her husband poison to drink, now that he is sober, he made it clear that she had nothing to do with him drinking it and he had done so of his own volition.
