Uncle Skinny’s Carnival countdown begins
The countdown has begun to the most anticipated childrenâs event of the year, âThe Scotiabank Uncle Skinnyâs Kids Carnival.â{{more}}
The event, which marks the first ever childrenâs event during St. Vincentâs Carnival festivities, will take place on June 18, 2011, at the Victoria Park. Fabulous and his team promise an action packed day with non-stop activities which will climax with live performances from the islandâs favourite entertainers.
This yearâs activities cater to children of all ages, and there are ample booth spaces to ensure that no one is left out of the excitement. Apart from the dips and punchboards, children will have a choice of five face painters, three bouncing castles and a trampoline, arcade games such as table pinball and tabletop basketball, interactive games which will include a ring toss and sticky darts games to keep them entertained.
For those with young children, there will be a specially designated area called the âThe Toddler Ringâ, so that the little ones will not get lost amongst the bigger children. In this special area, toddlers will have access to four bouncing castles, a kiddies trampoline, ball pits and much more. Children will also get the opportunity to meet some of their favourite television characters like Dora the Explorer, Elmo and Spongebob Squarepants. Clowns creating balloons will be available for purchase and children can look out for a special booth which will house a very trained, skilled and amazing magician.
The highlight for this yearâs event will most definitely be the special kids concert which will feature a range of the islandâs top soca artistes. The concert will start promptly at 6pm and children can expect performances from an exciting line up of local artistes including Problem Child, Fyah Empress, Mr. Fuzion Galanaire, R3cka, Colombian and Uncle Skinny himself. This segment of the concert is intended to give children a once in a lifetime experience with up close performances and interaction with some of their favourite artistes.
âIf we really want the festival to continue to grow we must plant the seeds with the young ones, and involve them as much as we possibly can in the festival,â says Skinny Fabulous.
There will also be live performances during the concert from several youth groups and emerging young acts from across the island, including the Arabesque Dance Company, The Avenue Dancers, The La Gracia Dance Company and The Ground Breakers. Young panist Saiid Bowman is also a part of the cast as well as two young females from the Sion Hill Euphonium.
âWe are pleased to say that this event is 100 per cent children friendly. We have adopted a strict policy on the lyrical content of the music which will be performed and also played at the event which all parties involved have willingly agreed to adhere to,â says Fabulous.
Early bird tickets are available at $5 for children and $10 for adults. Ticket outlets are Country Grocery – Georgetown, Ocean View Supermarket – Peruvian Vale, Singer, Kids Plus, Mikey James Bar – Mesopotamia, Martello Investments – Penniston and Layou Supermarket.
This yearâs event is sponsored by The Bank of Nova Scotia, Digicel, The Searchlight Newspaper, Hot 97 SVG, Dekieâs Autozone, Singer, Geccu and Sunny Events and Tours.
