Prayer Breakfast launches National Day of Prayer
âThe effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails muchâ James 5:16.{{more}} This scripture was read by Minister of National Reconciliation and Ecclesiastical Affairs Maxwell Charles at a prayer breakfast on Wednesday, 31 May, 2011.
The prayer breakfast was the first activity to launch the National Day of Prayer activities. It convened at the Upper Room Ministries, Kingstown.
âPrayer is something that changes thingsâ, said Charles, adding that the exercise will never go unnoticed. Charles was joined by cabinet colleagues, senior public servants and members of the clergy. It was a time of singing and prayer for persons who have specific and general prayer requests.
Deputy Prime Minister Girlyn Miguel said that she is the chaplain of the Cabinet and wanted the public to know that they have a Cabinet which prayed.
In delivering the homily, Bishop George Frederick asked the question âWhat are the functions of prayer?â He then gave six verbs that describe prayer. According to Bishop Frederick, prayer positions; prayer releases Godâs authority and power in a given situation; prayer adjusts that which is out of alignment; and prayer yokes us to Christ and regulates whatâs happening in heaven and earth. Head of this yearâs national day of prayer committee is Pastor Stephen Ollivierre. He encouraged individuals to pray regardless of their status. The National Day of Prayer is June 6, when an event will be held at Heritage Square from 11:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m.
