This Wednesday, Premier distributors St. Vincent Ltd, the distributors of CRIX Bermudez Biscuits, handed over a cheque valued $24,318, to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, as
part of its relief efforts for persons affected by the April 11, 2011, flash flooding in the countryâs north
east.
According to Allison Smith-Sampson of Premier Distributors, the money was collected from every purchase of the companyâs âsalt biscuitsâ over a three week period from April 21 to May 6.
âFor generations CRIX has been entwined in the Caribbean, so when our brothers and sisters endure hard times we feel a genuine need to help.â
âSo in an effort to assist, we decided to donate 50 cents (from every CRIX product purchased) to assist in the rebuilding of Georgetown and the environs.â
Smith-Sampson also indicated that the fundraising drive will continue on Whit Monday, June 13, with a CRIX Fun Walk, which will see participants walking from the Calliaqua playing field through Villa/Fountain, down the Vigie Highway, Arnos Vale, and back to Calliaqua.
The Walk will begin at 5:30 am.
She said that breakfast, along with gift packages and other prizes, will be there for participants of the walk.
Prime Minster Gonsalves, in his capacity as Minister of National Security accepted the cheque on behalf of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), thanking Premier Distributors for the donation.
âI accept this gift with joy; and I know that those who receive are blessed and those who give are also blessed.â
âItâs a wonderful fifty cents and I want to thank them very much.â
The Prime Minister noted that a number of individuals and business have also been making donations to the Georgetown relief efforts and that the government is thankful for all donations.
