Jujube is on the literacy highway
Jujube Bookstore continues to show its commitment to the promotion of literacy in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The company participated in the launch of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Reading Association (SVGRA){{more}} held at Frenches House on May 25, 2011. Jujube mounted an original and eye-catching display themed âA Great Living Room Needs a Great Book Collection.â
The display featured furniture from Courts, soft furnishings and accessories from Fine Things, and a book and magazine collection from Jujube. Michele Samuel, Managing Director of Jujube explained that the display was intended to convey the message that a library is an essential element of a home, and that books can be stylishly displayed. Samuel stated that good literature makes a good conversation piece, but more importantly, children ought to be surrounded by books in the home and should have the freedom to explore them. The display demonstrated how this could be done by the placement of books in wicker baskets on the floor, making them easily accessible. She lamented that many modern homes were being built without any provision for a library or book collection, but suggested that any room could accommodate a home library.
Samuel extended warm congratulations to the SVGRA and pledged her companyâs commitment to supporting the organisation, quipping that Jujube was on the literacy highway. The theme of the Association is âThe Literacy Highway: Transforming Lives Every Day.â One of several sponsors of the launch, Jujube handed over to the SVGRA a range of literacy sample packs, including kits and programmes to motivate learning and improve reading comprehension.
