Former Government Minister and GHS alumna Rene Baptiste was the first to receive a copy of the collection, given in honour of her work in initiating the stamp collection for the school.
Headmistress of the St. Vincent Girlsâ High School Andrea Bowman handed over the collection of the schoolâs âfirst-day coversâ to Baptiste.
Bowman commended Baptiste, noting that if it were not for Baptisteâs initiative and consistent hard work, they would not have had a stamp issue for the Centenary Celebrations.
Baptiste, on receiving the collection, said the idea came about as the Alumnae Association looked for an iconic way to mark the centenary of the school.
Interestingly, Baptiste said she was serving as Minister of Culture at the time and her Ministry was doing âfirst-day coversâ to mark both the 25th Anniversary of Vincy Mas and Independence, so she thought it was also a good idea to do a collection to mark the 100th year of the GHSâ existence.
The stamp collection is influenced by the outstanding academic, cultural and sporting achievements of the alumnae, as well as historic milestones of the school over the years.
The collection of stamps is available for purchase. The GHS will continue to host more activities to mark its 100th anniversary.
