More police for this year’s Vincy Mas, says ASP Nicholls
Assistant Superintendent of Police Jonathan Nicholls is assuring the public that the presence of the police will be felt during this Carnival season.{{more}} Nicholls, also the police representative on the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), made remarks during the CDCâs press conference on Monday, May 23rd, 2011, at the CDCâs conference room.
Nicholls stated that the police play an integral part in ensuring that nationals and visitors to the country enjoy Vincy Mas to the fullest. He added that one of the innovations of the force for this Carnival is to incorporate officers in the rural Carnival planning committee.
âWe thought that with more input from police officers in the rural district, that can help to make the festivals in that area better,â Nicholls said.
Nicholls added that an operation plan is in order for the Miss SVG event which will take place on Saturday night, and be headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Leroy Brewster. Nicholls also related that last year, several vehicles were reportedly broken into in the Fernside, Wilson Hill, area. He noted that police will also be assisting security in that area as patrons attending the Miss SVG show will be granted use of the Anglican Churchâs Car Park.
He, however, encouraged vehicle owners to assist the police in efforts by installing an alarm system in their vehicles and by ensuring that no valuables are left in their vehicles. ââ¦do not leave valuables in the vehicle that will attract the attention of the thieves, because last year that is one of the things that we noted. Electronics and other items were stolen from vehicles that were left on the seats both front and rear of the vehicle,â Nicholls said.
Nicholls added that traffic police will also be present to assist with parking and that parking at the back of the Victoria Park will only be permitted for official vehicles.(OS)
