Eleanor Glasgow: First woman ordained to the Holy Order of Deacons
History will be created next week in the Anglican Diocese of the Windward Islands when Eleanor Candasie Glasgow is ordained to the Holy Order of Deacons.{{more}}
Glasgow will be ordained on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, (Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary) at the St. Georgeâs Cathedral in Kingstown.
Glasgow will become the first woman to be ordained since the Diocese of the Windward Islands assented to the ordination of women in 2000.
Of the eight Dioceses constituting the Province of the West Indies, Guyana remains the only Diocese yet to give assent to the Ordination of women.
Glasgow, a national of Barbados, has been a resident of Grenada since 1992. She is currently the Director of Lay Ministries of the Anglican Church, Parish of St. George. She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Hons) in Theology, History and Sociology and a Master of Arts degree in Theology.
Glasgow is the wife of the Venerable Christian E. Glasgow, Archdeacon of Grenada, who is Vincentian.
