The aim of the Father and Son Day Activity is to enhance the relationship between the fathers and their sons and to ensure that the young men are nutured to add value to the society and take up their roles when they become fathers.
Principal of the school Anella Roban said the programme was initiated in May 2009, to bring fathers and sons together, outside of the home environment, to remind them of their roles and to coach them to continue to be effective fathers, by engaging them in meaningful dialogue.
Roban noted that this exercise will also help the boys to prepare for manhood. She said that there are too many homes with absentee fathers and that fathers should assume their roles as heads of the households, because when they give up their roles, their sons go astray. She further stated that sons must bond with their fathers to fulfill spiritual and other secular roles.
Meanwhile, Guest Speaker Pastor Casmus John urged fathers to teach their sons to be good men, husbands and fathers. He told the fathers to love their sons, embrace them and forgive them when they do wrong. He also urged the fathers to be responsible and take up their roles in the home and society and treat the opposite sex with utmost respect.
He further stated that the simple things that men did for women traditionally, like opening the door of a vehicle, or pulling out a chair, have gone out the window and noted that the boys need to practise these things as part of their roles.
John noted that our society is broken and that fathers must be an example to their children. He went on to say that men are playing the roles of women in sexual activities and that crimes are prevalent among the male population; so, he therefore urged fathers to bring up their children in the training and admonition of the Lord.(API)
