World Telecommunications and Information Society (WTISD) Day is being observed today.{{more}}
To commemorate WTISD, the Telecommunications, Science, Technology and Special Projects under the auspices of the Office of the Prime Minister will be hosting a Telecommunication Fiesta in Kingstown and Fancy.
The theme for this yearâs celebration is âBetter Life in Rural Communities with ICTsâ, which aims to ensure that the rural population benefits more from the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs).
Kingstownâs activities would consist of exhibitions at various locations. The following exhibitors will display their products and services from 10 a.m. under the General Post Office:Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Postal Corporation, Jujube Book Store, National Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (NTRC) and National Centre for Technological Innovation (NCTI)
Telecommunication providers LIME, Digicel and Karib Cable would be hosting their activities at their office locations.
Fancyâs activities would be held at the Fancy Government School from 1:30 p.m.
This programme includes remarks from Dr. Jerrol Thompson, Director of Telecommunications, Science, Technology and Special Projects; Montgomery Daniel, Area Representative for North Windward; Kyron Duncan – Universal Service Fund Administrator, NTRC, and Channyatt Ramsamooj, Network Administrator, Ministry of Education.
The programme is geared towards primary and secondary school children from Touroma, Sandy Bay, Owia and Fancy as well as persons from these communities and will inform them of the national ICT initiatives geared towards providing more efficient service to the populace.
In addition to the exhibitors and the telecommunication providers, Pearsons Caribbean would display their products and services in Fancy as well.
The public is asked to take note that the Telecommunication Fiesta at Fancy would be broadcasted live on the National Broadcasting Corporation Radio 705 and the Garifuna Radio Station from 1:30 p.m. today.
