NDP assists flood victims in Georgetown
In a return visit to the Georgetown and Dickson communities on Thursday, May 12, President of the New Democratic Party (NDP) Arnhim Eustace and various executive members met with persons living in shelters,{{more}} and handed over suitcases, clothing and other necessary personal effects to Constituency caretaker NDP Candidate in the last General Elections, Kenroy Johnson.
Johnson has been for the past weeks supplying clothing, shoes, wares and cutlery and water to those who lost everything following a freak flood which devastated Georgetown and its environs, a release from the NDP said.
According to the release, Eustace has committed the NDP to continuing its efforts to bring tangible relief to persons who lost everything during the heavy rains, which saw houses destroyed and tremendous loss of property.
âResidents of the shelter have been getting assistance from Johnson and are pleased to be able to begin the process of rebuilding their lives. They await the governmentâs word on possible relocation and assistance to rebuild,â the release said.
The NDP release is advising anyone who lost their homes and belongings during the flood to contact Johnson who lives within walking distance of the two shelters for assistance.
Relief efforts through the NDP continue apace and the general public is encouraged to continue giving to those families affected by the floods, the release said.
