This is the second year nurses have been offered this opportunity. Last year, eighteen Vincentian registered nurses took up contracts to work in Trinidad.
Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Hon Cecil Mckie, who was present at the E.T. Joshua Airport to see the registered nurses off, urged them to embrace this opportunity, since it will assist in the development of this country. Minister Mckie highlighted that remittances are a significant contributor to this countryâs economy and urged the nurses to recognize this.
The Minister of Health noted that nurses are in high demand in the Caribbean, the United States of America and the United Kingdom; he stressed that with this reality, nurses should expand their horizons.
Dean of the School of Nursing, Sister Suzanna Providence, was elated to see the fruits of the Nursing policy. Providence stated that the standards and principles of Nursing should not be compromised. The Dean of the School of Nursing encouraged the nurses to be excellent ambassadors for the College and the Division of Nursing Education.
The students will be contracted for three years, after which they will be able to re-apply for positions. These Nurses are graduates of the class of 2008, 2009 and 2010.
