OECS Authority to hold its 53rd Meeting in SVG
The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) will hold the 53rd Meeting of the OECS Authority from May 18 to 20, 2011, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}} The Authority is the highest policy making body of the Organisation.
The Opening Ceremony which takes place on Wednesday, May 18, at the Peace Memorial Hall, will feature addresses by the Director General of the OECS, Dr. Len Ishmael, the outgoing chairman Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas â Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the incoming chairman Hon. Stevenson King â Prime Minister of St. Lucia, and Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves â Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The member states of the OECS celebrate the thirtieth anniversary this year, and ratified a revised Treaty on January 21st establishing themselves as an economic union.
This meeting is pivotal as it is the first official meeting since the new treaty came into force, and it is expected that decisions to facilitate the free movement of persons will be high on the agenda.
